Home Security
Now is the time to increase your home security
It is a sad fact that we have to spend some much time and often money invested in improving the security of our homes, but it is something that you need to take seriously. With property crimes and home invasions on the rise, it is essential to take proactive measures to ensure your home is secure.
There are a number of ways in which you can increase the security of your home, some cost money others can be done for free or on a very limited budget.
One of the easiest and most important ways to increase your security is to ensure that you never leave any windows or doors open when you go out. So many people forget to lock their back door, or leave a window open during the summer, but this is often an open invitation for a criminal and allows then easy access to your home. It also means that they can enter without casing any disruption or noise, meaning they are unlikely to be spotted by a passer by or neighbour. You may need to upgrade the locks on your windows or doors as sometimes, especially older models, have very basic levels of security which are extremely easy for a criminal to bypass.
Another way to up your security is to install a security system. A security system can help protect your home by alerting you to any intruders or suspicious activity and recording the footage which may prove vital if it has to go to court. Many modern security systems have features such as motion detectors, real time viewing and smart phone alerts. These features allow you to monitor your home from a remote location and receive alerts if there is any activity that may not be genuine.
Installing security cameras around your home can be an effective way to deter burglars and catch them if they do attempt to break in. You need to think carefully about where you install the cameras. They should be placed in strategic locations such as near the front door, back door, and garage and also make sure the cameras are visible as this can act as a deterrent to potential intruders.
Outdoor lighting is a really good idea, as a well light house or garden is less likely to fall victim to a burglar than one that is in the dark. Criminals will use the dark to hide in and not be seen. If you have security lights that come on as soon as they detect movement, then this may be enough on its own to deter any criminal activity from taking place.
